This report is related to this feature request: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1399 But I think adding this wouldn't be enough. I was planning on installing Xubuntu on my wife's notebook but it took me too much time figuring out how to add Thunderbird to the panel without having to set everything myself in a custom launcher. The workaround I found (in a forum) was running appfinder while creating the launcher and d&d Thunderbird in there. I would have never thought of that myself. There needs to be an option to drag and drop the starter from the menu to the panel (and the desktop). Just like in GNOME (or any other DE/OS I know of). I can't think of any easier way then that. In fact, I can't think of any other way at all, the "usual user" (as in my wife) would try this.

I specifically said this is _not_ a duplicate of bug #1399 Fixing bug #1399 is not enough IMHO: > There needs to be an option to drag and drop the starter from the *menu* to the panel

The 4.8 panel support dropping .desktop uris, which will create new launchers. You can also add launchers from the command line, see bug 2761.
Devel branch has been merged in master. A 4.7.0 release will follow soon. If you think this bug is not fixed? Feel free to reopen the bug.
