I'd like to see an option in xfdesktop to disable drawing the backdrop completely, to allow another program to take over this task. I'd like to have a more flexible backdrop but still have xfdesktop's icons and menus.

Alternatively, include an option to select alpha transparency on the solid background or gradient. This should probably only be available if Composite extension is enabled.
