When 2 or more tabs are opened,a tab name is double clicked to change the tab name, the textbox appears. After this, regardless whether a name was added, or the textbox is dismissed, the terminal window freezes. One is unable to type or even close the tab. It only closes after a while if the close button is (repeatedly) clicked, or if killed from another terminal or tty. (Note that other terminals can be opened after the bug occurs)

The bug was produced on Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia, with xfce4-terminal 0.8.6 (Xfce 4.12) (64 bit) on kernel 4.13.0-26-generic

Hi, this looks very similar to bug #13996.
What is your system's gtk3 version?

Shucks, I'm very sorry, it's absolutely similar. My GTK3 version is 3.18.9-1. Should I inform a maintainer of Linux Mint about this?

Thanks for the confirmation!

The ideal solution would be to upgrade Mint's gtk3 version to 3.20.8 (which is proved to be free from this bug) or greater. 3.18.9 was released in Mar-16, 3.20.8 - in Aug-16.
The more realistic scenario, as I see it, will be upgrading to newer Mint version when it comes out, and which will probably have at least gtk 3.22.x.

Another option could be to manually upgrade your system's gtk3 version, from a ppa or something like that. I'm not a Mint user and cannot recommend anything, but I think you could give it a try.
