Created attachment 6358 screenshot I have an external monitor attached to my notebook. This monitor is usually turned on on demand using the display-settings tool (or xrandr directly). Whenever this happens, the icons on the desktop start jumping around 10 pixels (guessed). Please have a look at the attached picture to see the difference. Left side: Normal with external monitor turned off Right side: Jumping icons when external monitor turned on. Expected behaviour. Icons stay where they are. The picture shows the top left corner of the display. The external monitor extends to the right side.
Thanks for reporting and sorry for the late reply ! This at least partially is a feature. xfdesktop stores different icon profiles for different monitor setups in $HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop (path may variy among distributions) This should enable you to as well populate the external monitor with icons. However currently there are some well known bugs for that feature: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11266 (to be fixed soon) and https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7508 Best check what is your current profile (check the timestamp) and delete all other profiles. Like that the jumping should stop. If you want to use the same icon-profile for both resolutions, you can put a symlink pointing from the double-screen config to the single-screen config.
