I would like the option to show the tooltip text as a label instead. Rationale: 1) Icons meanings aren't self-evident 2) Tooltips are slow 3) Easier for eyesight-impaired Desirable options: 1) show text instead of icon 2) show text above/below/on icon 3) scale text with icon Fancy stuff: 4) use translucent text and composite with image 5) fade text in, instead of floating tooltip 6) choose color/font/size 7) enable for entire panel and/or individual items Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Yeah, allowing labels could be a useful option. I won't add any of the fancy stuff though ;-) I don't think I'll get around to working on this myself, though, so if anyone else wants to try, please go ahead.
Reassign his bug to me, because thiswill most likely be fixed in the new launcher code.

Nope, not yet.

Not a common case, but you can show a label instead of an icon.

Right now in the git version there is a checkbox to show a label *instead* of an icon. When the xfce menu library supports merging and we have a menu editor again, you can create all sorts of menus for the menu plugin (which will most likely also move to the panel in the feature).
Devel branch has been merged in master. A 4.7.0 release will follow soon. If you think this bug is not fixed? Feel free to reopen the bug.
