If I move/copy a file to the desktop with drag and drop, the drop position on the desktop is ignored. I can reproduce this with thunar or file-roller (and probably other programs too). Affected versions: 4.10.0 4.11.6 4.11.7
Additionally, when new elements are created, they always end up on the leftmost output, instead of the output they were created on. See https://www.reddit.com/r/xfce/comments/b6341f/new_icons_appear_on_the_wrong_monitor/ejhm472/ 4.13.3
That is a new bug in 4.13.3 (https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15198).

Created attachment 8624 wip patch A first attempt. This implementation is not ideal, because in some cases it does not strictly pair the right-click or drop event with the actual file creation. The feature can be activated via the new setting "/desktop-icons/create-under-cursor".

Tested patch in xfce-test and drag and drop and creating a new entry both work, but when i restart xfdesktop, the position for drag and drop items is lost.
Created attachment 9846 wip patch Thanks for testing it. Saving works now with this updated patch.

Thanks for that patch Theo .. a feature I really miss :) > but when i restart xfdesktop, the position for drag and drop items is lost. Seems to be fixed with the new wip patch Imo the default should be true for "/desktop-icons/create-under-cursor", I think that is the expected behavior. .. I wonder if we even need a xfconf setting for it at all. I installed it now on my system .. if I find something strange, I will report here.
