Hi.

The side pane (I have tree view, this may pertain to the other view) is nice & compact, expanding folders a plus, icons nice, etc. Groovy.

But: I'm a little vexed by the lack of direct interactibility on these folders compared to on the right hand pane. It would be nice to be able to use keyboard shortcuts: delete (del), rename (F2), cut (ctrl-x), copy (ctrl-c), paste (ctrl-v), and possibly others that people use (like what I don't know).

To a lesser extent it would be nice to drag & drop folders from within the side pane, but that somewhat introduces the risk of accidental moving, and it's less of a common requirement.

Any thoughts/interest in these?
Cheers
(thunar 1.6.3 xubuntu 14.04)

I'd like to second this request for more tree view functionality.

It would be great to also have the ability to navigate the tree view via the keyboard arrow keys. And also display the tree view along side the shortcuts view.

Tree view especially is not in a very finished shape. Anyway, the sidepane is meant more for accessibility/navigation than for file operations. Closing until someone provides patches for improvement.

Hi Harald, I'm new to the bugfixing process, but can I ask what sense it makes to close a bug because it isn't fixed (patched)?
There are a number of perfectly reasonable small feature improvement requests/suggestions in this thread, neither I nor Tonurics are screaming for them to be actioned immediately, but they would be nice at some point. So if the bug is closed, won't that mean nobody ever sees it and these are never done?

I am trying to clean up thunar bug reports, today ~390 => 250. Because no one will read your suggestions anyway when they are buried deep inside the bug tracker. Besides, open source is not a request show (please do not take that too harsh, but it's the way it is). If you want something implemented, you do it yourself; it is very unlikely someone else will come about and implement it for you, unless it happens to fix exactly the same issue, which that one person doesn't need to search for because it is affected by it anyway. That said, patches welcome!

Fair point! No offense taken.

Re: patches welcome: I've not done hardly any programming but have just built a mathematical modelling 'program' in R so I might be able to teach myself. What language is Thunar written in, and would you have any tips/links for how I could narrow in on trying to tackle this?

Cheers!

I also do not have any objections to reopening this, it is your decision. I am simply closing older bug reports to see if anyone is still interested in them or if they have become obsolete. Just do not put your expectations in hoping to get this fixed by someone; even if someone does it, he or she may not do it the way you expected it to happen.

Thunar is written in C, as are all other Xfce core components. Thunar is a bit complicated to get started with programming though. Read http://xfce.org/getinvolved and maybe http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?hl=en&q=cache:4WQxbVa19tIJ:http://gezeiten.org/pre-2014/post/2012/11/How-to-start-contributing-to-Xfce-or-any-other-open-source-project, start hacking on easy stuff, contact other devs on IRC.

Cheers Harald. No need to reopen, I understand the situation. Thanks for the links. Hopefully I'll make some progress and can reopen it with some patches :)
