Hi, what's the mimetype/extension of the affected files? You cang get the mimetype by entering: file /path/to/movie.mpg in a terminal. This bug should probably be reaffected to Tumbler (do you have tumbler installer?). I can't reproduce this on Thunar 1.6.3-1, Tumbler 0.1.29-1 on Debian Jessie.
With tumbler-0.1.30 I've found more/less a bug. After compiling, see {SOURCE DIR}/tumblerd/tumbler.rc line 60. It reads [FfmegThumbnailer] missing the p in mpeg. Correct this either here or after (default) install to /etc/xdg/tumbler/tumbler.rc
Fixed in tumbler 0.1.32 / 0.2.0
