When using amixer [1] Xfce4-mixer is not affected. This can result in annoying volume differences when using Xfce4-mixer afterwards. Steps to reproduce: 1. enjoy your favorite song/movie really loud 2. open Xfce4-mixer 3. lower master volume by using e.g. `amixer set Master 5%` 3.1. notice the levers in Xfce4-mixer not being affected 4. now using the scroll wheel on Xfce4-Mixer panel plugin will result in an extreme difference of volume This behavior is quite nasty sometimes, especially when using keyboard shortcuts and mixer panel plugin side by side. I’m not sure since when this behavior occurs, just noticed it some days ago. I’m using just one sound card (HDA VIA VT82xx) only changing master volume. Arch Linux, Alsa, Xfce 4.10. [1] for example `amixer set Master 3%-` as a keyboard shortcut to lower Master volume

Quite strange, but after installing pavucontrol the issue is gone. My current config is alsa+pulseaudio+pavucontrol.
Closing old bugs. Mixer is being rewritten
