Similar to the BSD implementation - for which code exists already - we need an
implementation of the volume manager interface for SysV Unices and Linux. The
implementation should be straight forward and should support Linux 2.2, 2.4 and
2.6, as well as a bunch of Unix systems (you can have a look at the xffm fstab
code for an example of how to preserve compatibility with atleast some unix
systems). The implementation is not allowed to rely on special system services
(e.g. HAL), but must work OOTB on all target systems.
