Description Aditya Raj Bhatt 2013-03-02 15:24:56 CET
Linux kernel k3.7.9-2-ARCH ; ALSA

I have a minispeaker connected to the CPU using a standard speaker jack. It was working correctly but then I did a reboot and now whenever I play anything in parole, the message : The autoaudiosink element is not working
appears.

When I ran alsamixer, the default device detected is not my speaker but rather my webcam. When I run speaker-test the output is :

speaker-test 1.0.26

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory

Please assist.

After a couple of reboots, the default sound card in alsamixer is again Intel MID (Chip : Realtek ALC888). This is strange, because when I detected the problem I did reboot it a couple of times-

First, with speaker attached during reboot
Second, with speaker attached after booting into GUI.

This problem has happened to me before too but it seems to go away after some time. Please look into it, since it is extremely inconvenient.

P.S- If it is related to a more general linux problem, and not related to parole, then please tell me where I can post it.

UPDATE : Set the status to later, since I'm sure the problem will hit me again, as it has consistently after 1 month or so of usage.
