RESOLVED: MOVED

Description John 2013-02-16 19:17:48 CET
Native support to start an application on a given workspace is needed for this sophisticated WM.

+1

At least there could be a hook to notify subscribed apps when a window is created. That way it can be scripted without tricks like "sleep".

can't this be achieved with (g)devilspie?

Exactly, there is no need to bloat the WM with such things.

Devilspie will just let you atomatically send certain windows to other workspaces when opened though. It'd be excellent to be able to open apps on specific workspaces from any workspace. I guess it mostly makes sense for apps that are slow to start though, so maybe its usefulness is too narrow for a default feature.

Again, no, startup-notification (that xfwm4 supports) has this precicely for slow starting applications, so again, this feature is not needed in the window manager.
