I have a .desktop entry (blueman-adapters.desktop) which intended to be displayed only in xfce4-settings-manager. [Desktop Entry] Name=Bluetooth Adapters Comment=Set Bluetooth Adapter Properties Exec=blueman-adapters Icon=blueman-device Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=X-XFCE;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XFCE-SettingsDialog;X-XFCE-HardwareSettings; StartupNotify=true Encoding=UTF-8 NoDisplay=true X-XfceSettingsName=Bluetooth NoDisplay=true was used (at Xfce 4.6.2) to hide this .deskto entry only from main menu, not from xfce4-settings-manager.
I've a similar problem with thunar: If I use NoDisplay=true , then this desktop-entry isn't shown when right clicking a file in thunar and choosing "open with an other application". This behavior of thunnar conflicts with the specs published at http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html: |NoDisplay| means "this application exists, but don't display it in the menus". This can be useful to e.g. associate this application with MIME types, so that it gets launched from a file manager (or other apps), without having a menu entry for it (there are tons of good reasons for this, including e.g. the |netscape -remote|, or |kfmclient openURL| kind of stuff). I couldn't believe thunar would behave different to thouse specs, so I searched for hours to find out why thunar doesn't show me those desktop entries. Finally, I set them to NoDisplay=false , but I'm not happy that those desktop entries now show up in the main menue. I this a similar bug of thunar or the same as this with Xfce4-settings?
Thank you very much, Dr. Dr. Christof Arn, for your participation in this bug report. Since this bug is occurring with Thunar too, I guess this is a Garcon bug.
