Good day.

I have a setup with both a top- and a bottom-panel with the top panel containing the menu, a few application launchers, clock and all that, and the bottom one the "show desktop" icon, window-buttons and tray.

Every once in a while after starting XFCE my desktop-icons are situated under my top panel. I can fix it by going into the panel preferences for the (top-?) panel and immediately closing it again, which supposedly triggers a desktop redraw -- but it is of course sort of annoying.

I suppose it's a race-condition between startup of that top-panel and the desktop-icons being placed on the desktop, so I assume it would have to fixed from the side of xfdesktop by having it wait around for, well, something that indicates it needn't wait anymore. Not familiar with the XFCE code...

This issue has been present for years and has seemingly become rarer over time. It's not gone though; just got it again.

Thanks in advance for any attention.

Kind regards,
Rene

Thought I'd update this report to mention that in the, I notice, 3 months since I reported it it hasn't happened again. Given that it used to be a common problem, when it started again I opened this, but it's now at the very least very rare -- and non-reproduceable at will, so I'd personally say to close this report.

Not reopening this, as it's now fully unimportant, but... the race IS still present, it seems.

Just got it again; as the dates on these comments will show, for the first time in more than half a year. Posting this just in case someone wants to know from a development-standpoint.

Mu current xfce4-panel version (on arch linux) is 4.10.1-1, which has been installed for more than a month. xfdesktop is version 4.10.2-1, which has been installed for nearly 3 months. That is, does not seem to be related to a new version, and the next occurrence will probably take another half a year...
