Looks like this is going to be fixed in a patch release of GVFS; the master branch already contains a fix: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687525#c5 So the bug exists in stable releases 1.14.0 and 1.14.1; probably going to be fixed in 1.14.2. Up to you to decide whether adding workaround cruft is worth it. :p
Unfortunately, I didn't notice this patch until now, I'm going to mark it resolved since it's been fixed in GVFS. If it comes up again I'll happily add it to xfdesktop. Sorry I missed it, but thanks for the patch.
