It's all in the summary. Running XFCE4.10 Arch Linux. I've had off and on different GUI menu editors have limited to no functionality to only be later broken by updates.

Is it possible to implement a GUI menu editor that just works with 100% accuracy and stays working after updates?

If not, is it possible to have a simple, same across the board, single menu.conf file that lists all info regarding everything related to adding or removing menu items in a readable format that could be edited with a gui text editor?

As a former Gnome 2x series user who has made the switch to xfce, this is the feature I mostly miss from Gnome that xfce is lacking...

A respectful second for this request. The editor provided with Xfce (Settings -> Main Menu) is not 100% currently:

- "New Menu" button displays input dialog but does not add new menu
- "New Item" button displays input dialog but does not add new item
- "Help" button displays 'document not found error'
- Cannot copy or drag menu items between categories
- Cannot view more than one category of menu items
(Are you there, treeview? It's me, user.)

Jests aside, the main menu editor is probably a good candidate for some TLC.

Op, I mispoke. The main menu editor _will_ create a new menu item* but it files it in the 'Other' category regardless of your current view. How convenient :D

Of course this means you can't use the editor to, say, replace Ubuntu Software Center with Synaptic Package Manager within the root menu.

*items only; 'New Menu' still fails
