When trying to rename a desktop icon (right click > "Rename") when not using english language (I'm French), the icon is not renamed. It can be renamed by editing the appropriate line in the .desktop file (Name[fr] here), but it is a workaround.

I face the same problem with Thunar 1.2.3. The non-ascii characters are not supported by the bulk rename application. See the input below. The directory '/mnt/share/tales/Беларускія казкі (Манаеў) (2008)' exists and is accessible for reading.

dzmitry@z:~$ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/Thunar/ThunarBulkRename "/mnt/share/tales/Беларускія\ казкі\ \(Манаеў\)\ \(2008\)/"
Thunar: Error when getting information for file '/mnt/share/tales/Беларускія\': Invalid argument

dzmitry@z:~$ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/Thunar/ThunarBulkRename -V
Thunar 1.2.3 (Xfce 4.8)

Sorry, the correct command is below. Duplicate escaping is removed.

dzmitry@z:~$ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/Thunar/ThunarBulkRename /mnt/share/tales/Беларускія\ казкі\ \(Манаеў\)\ \(2008\)/
Thunar: Error when getting information for file '/mnt/share/tales/Беларускія': No such file or directory

Well, it seems that spaces are not supported, since it does not work even in this case:
dzmitry@z:~$ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/Thunar/ThunarBulkRename /mnt/share/tales/George\ Orwell/
Thunar: Error when getting information for file '/mnt/share/tales/George': No such file or directory

Sorry, I posted this to an irrelevant bug. Please remove my comments, if possible.

Works fine here. In my case, Name[en_US] is properly updated and used.

xfdesktop 4.12.0
thunar 1.6.6
