I was asked to post this feature request on here. Its been discussed on the mailing list. In thunar, add an toggle button which toggles between path buttons, and text entry for location. When the text entry field is not focused, the hotkey should be both "/" and "ctrl-l", to maintain compatibility with both nautilus and rox. Upon pushing the button and toggling into text entry mode, the current path should be displayed and highlighted (with a trailing slash) in the text entry field. This way, if the user pushes "/" again, it will replace the selected text and form and absolute path. But if the users pushes something else, it will replace the text and they will be typing a relative path to the current folder. Feel free contact me for more clarification/info. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
This is a good feature idea, but... Sorry... I was asked to put a feature request into bugzilla... but it turns out that was for a different feature and I got confused and put this one in. I'm not sure this has been fully discussed/decided on in the mailing list. (Which I implied it had been in the original post, because the other feature had been.) man I wish I could just edit the bug report!
The report is ok ;-) I really don't expect people to do this very often, switch between text entry and buttons that is, so I don't believe there should be a UI item in such a prominent place. I believe the the Ctrl-L dialog should be sufficient. Typing paths is not something the file manager should be primarily designed for.
