I just started using XFCE recently and I must say I was really scared and intrigued by the Warning dialog I got whenever I removed an applet while initially fiddling with the panels to customize the desktop. It reads: "If you remove the item from the panel, it is PERMANTLY LOST." This scared the hell out of me the first time I encountered it, because the wording "permantly lost" implies that it would technically be impossible, for some obscure reason, to ever put it back on, hence irreversible... so the obvious reaction is to cancel the action, then wonder why on earth removing an applet would have to be irreversible, and consequently that means it is impossible to customize the panel applets, which would seem rather odd. So I was rather shaking when I pressed "YES"... the realized that sure enough, the applet was still listed among the available applets and could be added back to the panel, just like one does it on Gnome for example. So I find it rather misleadling and uselessly scary to word the warning in such a way that it implies it is irreversible, when obviously it is not, and very gladly so ! ;-) I guess we could even question the need for a dialog altogether, regardless of wording, as goes with Gnome or any other DE I guess.
This message box still exists in version 4.12.2. I agree with the reporter that this message is wrong and confusing. It should not be displayed. Nothing is "permanently lost," so there is no need for the confirmation of removal.
Simon Steinbeiss referenced this bugreport in commit baeda0c43cfcc5dd73470cc848ef3b55a3b5acb2 Improve wording in "Remove plugin" dialog (Bug #9000) https://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/commit?id=baeda0c43cfcc5dd73470cc848ef3b55a3b5acb2
I improved the wording, making it less ambiguous.
