Description Alex Halovanic 2005-02-24 05:49:25 CET
I wanted to use firefox as my default browser for xfhelp4 and others, so I
followed the advice at
http://www.loculus.nl/xfce/documentation/docs-4.2/xfce-utils.html and a lot of
other places. The problem is that XFCE does not seem to follow the $BROWSER
setting at all, and instead persistently launches galeon. Instead, it seems to
follow /usr/bin/x-www-browser-> /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser->
/usr/bin/galeon. Changing the last symlink to firefox effectively changes
XFCE's behavior and its now launching firefox perfectly for me. I don't know
what this bug is exactly; a documentation error, or maybe its specific only to
Debian, the Os-Cillation packages or something.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set export BROWSER="firefox" in ~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile
2. Restart
3. Launch xfhelp4

Actual Results:
Galeon continues to launch

Expected Results:
According to the documentation, xfhelp4 should have launched according to the
$BROWSER variable

Using Debian Unstable with latest Os-Cillation XFCE4 packages

Please report this to os-cillation (they have a forum, maybe also a bug
tracker). Xfce works as advertised in the default configuration.
