hello Newbeeeee, heeelp ! :) installation this night (01.09.2011) all was good and I shut it down. now, opened session with correct login and pssword: I see just the background but no menus, no borders, well nothing to load any application to try to correct something. But it seems to work as I've loaded firefox from a terminal and I can mount volumes (eg cdroms). my dsiplay is an HP W1907v I thinks it's a bug isn't it ? and if someone could help me It would be great. thanks !

Have you tried with Xubuntu forum first? Could be an installation issue if the system was just installed. Do you have the window manager running? What if you type "xfwm4 --daemon" from a terminal?

[Keeping the discussion in English so that others non-French ppl can contribute as well] So what you describe is really not an issue with the window manager, the window manager is not responsible for displaying the panel and desktop, these are two other different components. What you describe here really looks like an installation issue, and should be asked in an appropriate Xubuntu or Ubuntu forum, not in bugzilla. I do not know if there are any such forum in French (I am sorry but I am not using Ubuntu myself), but I am pretty sure you will be able to find some help there. If not, you may also post to the xfce mailing list. But I'm afraid bugzilla is not the appropriate place to ask for such issues, its purpose is for reporting bugs, not getting help. PS: to shutdown your system, you could be use "shutdown" or "poweroff".
installation issues have to be discussed on a forum ps: all settings should be stored inside ~/.config/xfce4, you can try to delete or rename this directory to start with a fresh xfce configuration
