Often when running Eclipse IDE on Xfce, switching to another desktop and then switching back to the desktop running Eclipse causes Xfce to freeze. It appears that either the window redraw hangs or as its redrawing, Eclipse hangs and Xfce is waiting for it to finish. In either case the mouse can still move but nothing is clickable and keyboard short cuts no longer work. Ctrl-Alt-BS also does nothing, only option is to reboot or SSH in from another machine and kill X itself. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Eclipse IDE in one workspace 2. Switch Workspace using shortcut keys and then back (rapidly works better) 3. Lock up occurs Actual Results: The mouse can still move but Xfce doesn't respond when another deskop or app is clicked. Short-cut keys no longer work, Ctrl-Alt-BS does not escape from X as it should. Expected Results: Even if Eclipse (or any other app) crashes, Xfce should be able to respond so the app can be killed or X can be restarted correctly. My configuration is: Athlon 1.2 Ghz w/ 256MB RAM Fedora (FC2) (2.6.10-1.9_FC2) GTK+ 2.4 When the hang occurs no errors seem to be printed to any logs
Frankly, it doesn't sound like a bug in Xfce: 1) Xfce itself can't freeze your computer, 2) If you need to reboot, it looks like a X driver bug, 2) I'm using Eclipse everyday without any problem on several different systems.

I can log in via SSH on another machine and kill X without problems. It could be the drivers, I'm using newer (newest? haven't checked in a few weeks so not sure) drivers from NVidia, with a GeForce 2 card. I posted here because I also use Blackbox WM and have not experienced this problem while using it with Eclipse. Also I Googled for anyone else having similar problems and I found a lot of people with problems with hanging on bootup that might be related to the driver, but nothing about hangs after everything had been running smoothly.
Odd. Do you have composite enabled?
Composite is not enabled.
I have no clue of what could be wrong. You may want to try an update and see if that helps. http://www.xfce.org/~olivier/preview/xfwm4-4.2.CVS20050220.tar.gz
No reply in almost 10 months. I'm resolving this as WORKSFORME.
