I have a vertical panel with multiple launchers originally set to "Default" arrow position. After recently upgrading from 4.8.3 (arch dist.) all the launchers' icons are vanished. Setting arrow position directly to "South" or "North" works fine.
I have digged in a little, it seems the solution for bug #7584 has this side effect.
