In the panel, if you have two grouped application windows, e.g. two terminals, you can't move or switch their position to, for example, a single firefox window. Basically, grouped windows in the panel can't be moved. If this has already been fixed, sorry.
What exactly do you mean, detach a window from a group? Or moving grouped buttons all together? Also, Xfce 4.8 is already out for a while.

it would be nice also to move all the grouped windows in a different workspace with a single operation
