I just installed Xfce 4.8.3 on to a new server. The first time run caught my old Xfce 4.4.2 dock and imported everything. Very much appreciated. Minor annoyance: all the launchers on my dock came out in reverse order. What use to be on the top is now on the bottom and visa-versa.
Additional to that: In the preference windows the items are reverse to the launcher. So if you move it up in the preferences of the launcher the item will move down in the launcher itself
(In reply to comment #1) > Additional to that: In the preference windows the items are reverse to the > launcher. I noticed that. This is a change from 4.4.2. I find it confusing. Is this behavior on purpose? > So if you move it up in the preferences of the launcher the item will > move down in the launcher itself This what I did.
In the dialog the first item is the one that appears on the panel. The items below that are the ones close to the first item. The when your launcher is on the top of the screen the order is that same as in the dialog, on the bottom of the screen in "reversed" order. I'll look in the reversed sorting during migration.
(In reply to comment #3) > In the dialog the first item is the one that appears on the panel. Figured that one out the hard way on 4.4.2. Thank you guys for looking into this! -T
was this fixed in 4.10?
I presume this was either fixed or is irrelevant now as nobody is migrating from 4.4 anymore (I hope). Mark's comment (if I understood it correctly) also seems fixed.
Not fixed in 4.12
Created attachment 7696 pop up and properties reversed This shows the Launcher's properties on the left and the launcher's pop up on the right. The Launcher's properties is up side down (reversed).
Oh ok, I get it now. I'm using a panel at the top of the screen so the menu sorting is correct. The solution would probably have to be to dynamically check the orientation of the panel when creating/populating the menu and potentially making it reverse. The main problem I see with this is that no other panel plugin does this currently - they all behave consistently the same. So by "fixing" it in the launcher menu we'd either have to update all plugins or accept that we then have inconsistent behavior. I personally would lean towards accepting the status quo.
Hi Simon, Since Panel 2 is on the bottom by default, you should change this to match the default, in other words, change it to what the majority sees, not a custom configuration. And, I really like your idea of checking where panel two is located so everyone gets to see things normally. -T
