Problems with menu entries / desktop files

Description Christoph Wickert editbugs 2011-02-26 11:07:42 CET
There are three problems with the *.desktop files in orage 4.8.1 and earlier:

- The "Encoding" key is depricated. desktop-vile-validate will break
- "Application" is no longer a valid category according to xdg specs, again desktop-vile-validate will cry.
- "Icon" of globaltime is "xfce4-clock", but AFAICS this icon is not provided by any icon theme, not even by xfce4-icon-theme. Where is it supposed to come from?

yes, I can reproduce these.

Fix in 4.8.2

You now changed the icon to "clock", but where is this supposed to come from? It's not a registered name from http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/icon-naming-spec-latest.html. You should either use a registered name or provide an icon in the orage package.

ok, thanks for the URL. There is nothing even remotely suitable...need to think this, not easy.

Tried again to fix this in 4.8.2.6. Hopefully that works now.
(I am far from being an artist, so that icon could be more pretty....)
