tried with many icon themes but a missing icon shows.

Please provide more information, which distro are you using, are you compiling from source, etc...

Archlinux 2.6.37-bfs

i installed it from the repo using pacman (http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/xfce4-power-manager/)

and also tried from source
  ./configure --prefix=/usr \
	--sysconfdir=/etc \
	--libexecdir=/usr/lib \
	--localstatedir=/var \
	--disable-network-manager \
	--enable-polkit \
	--enable-dpms \
	--disable-debug

Strange, since i use arch also with the same configuration as yours.

Can you please run xfce4-power-manager --debug  and attach the output here.

just updated xfce-panel using pacman, problem solved
