The Icon Box plugin in 4.6 had an option for using (or not) all available space. Having an icon box which took only the amount of space it needed worked great for stuff like Global Menu.

It seems that the Icon Box and Window List plugins were merged, and the option was lost in progress. It would be great to see such functionality reinstated, maybe even used by default (it seems to me that the applet expands as necessary in any case, so why have a lower limit?).
