I've got a Thinkpad T510 which requires an additional module named thinkpad_acpi to let FN functions to work, like the brightness. almost forgot to say that using xbrightness (which uses xrandr to modify brightness levels) does not work too, this is the output (whatever the option passed to it is): $ xbacklight -get No outputs have backlight property
Can you run: xfce4-power-manager --debug Then press one of the brightness keys, attach everything here please.
Also having same issue. When starting laptop (Acer Aspire 7730G) it's starting with very dark backlight. Like the powercable isnt plugged in. Also it wont change any backlight if pull in and out the powercable. On the previous trace I should add that xfce shows the OSD with the brightness level changing (as expected), the actual brightness didn't change at all. Changing the brightness out of Xfce (i.e. tty) works fine, and that's what I've been using to overcome this xfce problem.
Driver problem, can do nothing about it.
