There is no alarm preview function which makes it harder for me to assess reliability/form of alarms (as a newcomer).

Orage 4.7 has this. It is possible to raise alarms immediately and see how it works.

(4.7 also has repeat preview, which makes it simpler to create repeating apointments.)
