Using 4.6.1 on Xubuntu 10.04.

Currently the Notification area only allows to set the apps that should be hidden. Would it be difficult/possible to add an option for 'hide pop-up notifications', as in Win 7? Or perhaps make it 'hide pop-up notifications' when the app icon is hidden, and show them when the toggle is used to un-hide all apps?

Is this something that the panel can control? Or should this be filed against xfce4-notifyd? Please let me know what you think

That is something completely different. To implement this, the notification daemon should provide a filter for application names.

Hello,

Such an option would just hide a bug in an other application. If you don't want an application to display notifications, it should have an option to do that. If an application is too verbose and sends too many useless notifications, it should be fixed in the application itself.

xfce4-notifyd and xfce4-panel's job is not to compensate applications broken by design. If you can give me a valid use case, I might consider this.

Cheers,

Jérôme

Hello
I'm not sure quite if they qualify for valid, but I can come up with some examples on my desktop (Xubuntu 10.04):
- I always want to have NetworkManager visible in the Notification Area, but I never need their messages since the changes in the icon are self-explanatory. (In this particular case NM is broken since it has an option to disable notification, which doesn't work.)
- I always want to have update-notifier hidden, but I always want to get notifications when new updates are detected

But that's probably not very compelling. I'm sure that other valid cases can be identified, but I guess I thought it would be a good idea since it was present in Win 7 while I could find its use on my Xfce desktop.

Regards
Liviu
