After root runs "mount -t devpts devpts /tmp/bla-bla" a regular user does not see PS1 or the blinking cursor in newly created instances of Terminal. This happens with Terminal 0.4.4 and 0.4.5 on linux 2.6.30.2 and 2.6.30.10. Just for comparison, xterm work fine.
It seems that this bug happens when I build my distro with glibc 2.11.2. When I build the distro with glibc 2.10.1 the bug does not appear.
More info: happens with vte 0.20.0, 0.20.5, 0.25.1, 0.24.3. With 0.24.3 the green cursor is shown, but PS1 is not. By the way, did anyone read this bug report?
Of course I read the bug. But since this is most likely not a bug in terminal, it will be in vte (try vte or gnome-terminal) or more likely some setting/other problem in your system (fixed by another libc version?). So I leave those bugs alone for some time, because mostly they solve themselves.
Dear Mr. Nick Schermer, I was so kind to inform you of any problem that I encountered with Terminal, and took much pain to setup various test cases and try them all, informing you of the results and hoping to help you find and fix the problem as soon as possible. As you can probably imagine, I've spent quite a bit of my time doing all this. Unfortunately (and I regret to say this), you were not as kind to answer my reports in a timely *manner* and advise me to look somewhere else for the problem instead of wasting my time in test cases which you were going to ignore. Don't you appreciate the time and efforts that users of Terminal spent tying to help you improve the program?! And since I've been disappointed with the support of Xfce several times now (see my other bug reports about Terminal) I seriously consider switching to some other terminal emulator and maybe even to some other desktop environment. Best wishes, Angel Tsankov
Sorry about that then, but I have a life too and have a full time job beside Xfce. Currently we (me and 3 other developers, tops) try to finish Xfce 4.8, so not much time has been spend on Terminal lately. So to reduce my bug pressure I let bugs from which I suspect they are not Xfce (or in this case terminal) related 'rot' for some time because around ~20% of the bug I'm assigned have other causes we cannot control.

I have a full-time job, too, as well as a lot of other stuff to do besides testing Xfce for bugs, so I (and probably other users of Xfce) will appreciate your telling when a bug is beyond your control. Any clues as to where the cause for a bug may be are welcome, too.
