when clicking a tarball (tar.bz2) of the firefox4-alpha thunar crashes with the message: "** ERROR:io-xcf.c:1443:xcf_image_stop_load: code should not be reached Aborted" i never experienced this with any other filetype - even other archives work fine (e.g. tar.gz).
Does it happen when you single-click the file or double-click? Can you run Thunar in gdb like this? gdb Thunar and once it has crashed, retrieve a backtrace with "bt" and report that here?
