Right now the config has following choices for "When laptop lid is closed" (at least, on my laptop):

* Nothing
* Suspend
* Hibernate
* Lock Screen

"Nothing" implies that nothing should be done at all - I was fooled that this is exactly what would happen. In reality, program will send DPMS off signal to the screen if no external monitor is connected.

Proposed solutions:
1. Rename "Nothing" into "Switch display off"
2. Optionally, add an option "Nothing" which will actually do nothing

Almsot all laptop switch the display off via hardware when the lid is closed, this is not controlled by Xfce.

Almost but not all.
My previous laptop, Dell E1505 was quite popular -- and didn't turn off its screen because of this bug.

But the bug says that power manager already sends DPMS OFF -- and just that the wording needs to be changed
