tint2 w/ box issue

With XFCE's compositer turned on, letters in tint2 and the terminal appear with black blocks behind them (see attached image). This issue is resolved when compositer is turned off and xcompmgr is used instead.

Xorg 1.8 is completely autoconfigured (no xorg.conf used). My Xorg.0.log:

I doubt this is a bug in the compositor.

Does it happen with other Xrender based compositor as well (for example metacity with compositor or xcompmgr)?

I did just notice upon closer inspection that tint2 works correctly under xcompmgr, but terminal still appears to be misbehaving under xcompmgr.

Odd, really, I have not seen or experiences compositor issue for years and the code is fairly stable.

Can you identify when it first appeared, what component your upgraded?

good question: I just got the laptop (an ASUS UL30A), so this is a fresh install, and the first I've had with Xorg 1.8.

Well then perhaps it is an X issue.

Like with xcompmgr, cairo-compmgr fixes the issue for tint2, but not for Terminal.
