Navigating in thunar is quite intuitive, making it easy to just open a window and start typing, hitting return, or the up/down arrows occasionally. However, going 'back', or 'up' to the parent directory, requires shifting to a less naturalistic keyboard-shortcut paradigm: having to exit the little typing/search box, before hitting a key combination.

Although thunar doesn't display the, "..", symbols in the folder view, I was wondering if there'd be any problem with the typing/search box recognising the double-period expression as a hint to navigate to the parent directory?

Cheers,
Ick.

Alt+UP works to go to the parent directory, and Backspace and Alt+LEFT work to go to the previous directory.

The ".." approach looks too tricky in my regard. The search box is bound to the icon/tree view and isn't used for any kind of commands.

I'm familiar with the shortcuts, my point was that those shortcuts are an awkward shift in behaviour - doubly so, since no shortcuts are recognised, while the searchbox is open.

I was unsure whether to file that last bit as a bug in itself, as it is an issue. Having to hit Esc or wait for the search box to time out, before you can perform any operation other than 'open' on the selected file/folder, is pretty disruptive to work-flow.

As for the double-periods, I knew it might be a little tricky. Is it possible to have hidden items in a tree/liststore, or is that just wishful thinking?

Moving this one to Thunar 1.2.0.

This is too arbitrary. The first . will appear the searchbox and than the seconds . should activate the parent directory. What if a filename is "..bla".

Hi Nick. The idea was that it behave in the same way as anything else entered in to the search box (or the shell, for that matter), so hitting enter would be required for any action to be taken.
