Description Mike Massonnet editbugs 2010-03-14 15:11:14 CET
Currently running the application from the applications menu is always a one step action. That is you run the application take the screenshot and save it. It's not very interactive.

For example I cannot go back if I mistaken a screenshot, that is when I'm in the “action dialog” ready to save the image I can't go back to redo a new screenshot.

Then again, personally I'm used to run the screenshot application once in a decade (maybe every two or five months), so I won't put the panel plugin in my panel. What I did recently is that since I needed to take several screenshots successfully I have put and removed a temporary launcher in my panel. But this just to get around a problem that can be fixed in the application.

I had like to propose the application to be re-usable directly after taking action for the screenshot, after saving it/uploading it/etc. But not necessarily through an option, perhaps the action dialog could have more action buttons. Currently it has “Help, Cancel, Validate”. IMO Help can be removed since the Help button was already there in the first dialog, and nobody needs to get into the documentation to save the image. So drop that button to get space for new buttons, and add a “Back” button and replace the Validate button with two buttons “Save” and “Save and close”.

Screenshot of action dialog with more buttons

I played with the action dialog to add buttons like what I described, and the best shot with what I came out is attached here.

If you find it OK for you, I can attach a patch.

- Go Back button, agree
- Close application checkbox, disagree
- Remove Help button, somewhat agree, only if there's no room
- Add a Save & Close button, somewhat agree, the problem is that the upload and copy action are not exactly "save". Maybe that's why later you proposed the Close application checkbox, but in IMHO it clutters the UI and it's confusing if it gets aligned with the actions radio buttons.

I know this bug is seven years old, but it's never too late to ask for a patch, is it?
