Rpm can't replace a directory with a file or symlink. There's nothing I can do on the rpm side.
That should be dealt at the packaging step, not upstream. If rpm won't replace a folder by a symlink, then you should take care of that in maintainer scripts. I'm not yet sure how I'll deal with it in debian, wether dpkg will handle that correctly, but if it doesn't I'll take care of that in prerm script (not sure how it's called in rpm world)
