It would be nice if the iconbox would present the same context menu as the taskbar.

what specifically segfaults?  'xfdesktop -menu' works fine for me here, current CVS.

the iconbox is pretty much unmaintained, so it's unlikely this will get done
unless someone does the work and submits a patch.

I will only add it to the SVN version, though, not to the one for Xfce 4.2.
