When I use the recent document menu to open, say, a text file, the file gets opened behind existing windows. The window should open as the top window, I'd think.

For an example, see the following sequence of screen shots:

Hi David,
Thanks for your bug report.
I don't have this issue on my machine, and I suspect it has something to do with your xfwm4 settings. Do you have this same issue with launchers or any other application?

Not that I'm aware of. For example, when I click on a text file in Thunar, mousepad opens as the top window. But it seems as though only when I select something from the places list, does it always open up under the top window.

I'm not sure what you mean by "launchers". Can you clarify?

Also, any idea what xfwm4 settings you're suggesting might be responsible? (And where would I change those settings?)

I mean the plugin you can add to your panel called a "Launcher", the top item you can select when you click on "Add New Items..." in the panel's context menu.

No, I don't have any idea for specific settings. If you try it on a new user account (with an empty home directory) and this issue happens there, you'd convince me that it's not an xfwm4 setting that causes it.

Oh, OK. Sorry I didn't figure that out. (I'm a new Xfce user.)

No, the problem does not happen in launcher. I added a new launcher item to execute the command: mousepad '/home/darose/LaptopToDos.txt'. Result is like so:

FYI, I tried this on a new user account, and the problem *does* occur there as well:

Any ideas?

Sorry, David, I haven't had much time for this lately. I haven't forgotten, and I'll try to figure this one out with you when I find the time.

Again, sorry for not getting back to you in a timely manner. I still haven't been able to reproduce this bug; are you still having issues with it? If so, what distro do you run and what version? I want to try to reproduce the issue in a VM closer to your environment.

Yes, looks like the issue still exists. (Though I've stopped using the "places" panel item, so it doesn't impact me - also making this pretty low priority.)

I'm using Arch Linux (no version - it's a rolling release distro) x86_64 with xfce 4.6.1

Let me know if you need any additional info about my config.

So, I tried this in a VM with a fresh arch linux install. The windows opened by the places plugin's recent documents menu don't have focus but they do end up on top. The thunar windows opened by the places plugin's main menu do get focus.
