Currently, all changes to view settings (show hidden files, view as detailed list etc.) are "sticky" -- once you set them they apply forever until changed, even when Thunar is run as a new invocation. This is probably desirable in some situations for some users. However, I would prefer the option to have behaviour like ROX, where a new invocation of the program starts with a default view, not the last one which was used. "Show hidden files" is a good example. In most cases, I do not wish to see hidden configuration files, but I may need to see them to adjust something. Once the change is made, I close the filer window. But the next time I run Thunar (maybe next week!), I probably don't want to see hidden files. Sorting too. I'd like a default asending alphabetical sort to apply when I start Thunar, even if on one occasion yesterday I chose to sort descending by date. (Typically, I stop and start Thunar to do file management tasks. I don't leave it running or have a managed desktop.)
I fully agree with this. The current behavior drives me mad sometimes :)
Hi Steve, haarp, I've moved this request to https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3521 since the bug reports are similar (remembering view settings per-directory). Feel free to CC to the other bugmail and add your comments there. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 3521 ***
