Hello. Since the desktop icons grid is too space wasting, it would be great to add some switch to turn in off. I find it better, because small differences in positioning and making custom shapes to group the same kind of applications together are much better for remembering and desktop orientation. Also the caption background is too huge. I know it's nice, but it's unpractical. I usually set the icon size and caption font to some small sizes, but the caption border stays huge (therefore it would be also nice to allow setting of the border size or to be able to switch the border off ... it's not needed, when the background is not too various and the caption is well readable).
I got on my mind, that also some caption border transparrency/color setting would be great. And some caption font type as well. And caption position relative to icon bimap too :D Simply, make it as flexible as possible :D I hope I don't sound like an ungrateful person. But I know it's better to ask for these changes in one CR, because it could be time saving when they're designed and developed at once ... Regards, Jaromir.

I'm actually surprised there isn't a bug open for this already. It's been on my TODO list for a long time. > Also the > caption background is too huge. I know it's nice, but it's unpractical. There are options for some of these things. Read the README. Regardless, one bug per report, please.
Now a decade later we can assume that this feature will not be implemented. There is simply no demand for it and it would require some fundamental changes.
