Segfault.  Tried to launch app from xfce menu and then xterm.  The following was reported in /var/log/messages

Xfmedia is unsupported and unmaintained.  I'm surprised Ubuntu is still shipping it.  You can try the git version (see http://git.xfce.org) to see if that fixes your problem, but I wouldn't expect it to.
