drag and drop copy files instead of moving

Description juarih 2009-06-28 02:02:59 CEST
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; pt-BR; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060309 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.11
Build Identifier: Thunar 1.0.0

The problem is similar to the unsolved and unanswered problems reported in these high-trafic forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=411791 and http://forum.xfce.org/index.php?topic=4660.0
There is no option to change the default action of dragging and dropping files to move the files instead of forcing the user to press shift every time he uses drag and drop to move files around.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.On Xubuntu, open Thunar.
2.Using the mouse, drag a file (or directory) to another directory
3.It doesnt move the file, leaving a copy on the old location

Actual Results:
The user is forced to hold the shift key between the file dragging and droppping which causes harassment in the workflow.

Expected Results:
Just drag the file(s) and drop, no need for hold the shift key to move files around.

I am moving back to Nautilus because Thunar became unusable.

The behavior is to move when the destination directory is owned by the user and in your home. If you DnD a file to e.g. a usb stick key it will make the
default action as a copy.

Yes to a usb stick it is plausible to copy file instead of moving, but i am moving files between folders in a NTFS mount where I am not the owner of the files but have rwx access to them.

In Nautilus when DnD between home folder and the NTFS mount, and in the NTFS mount, the default action is move.

Did not test DnD in the home folder yet.

This logic changed a bit when switching to GIO, but IIRC we copy if the src and dest are on a different file system. Which is a good thing.
