Both in XFce 4.4.3 and 4.6.1 screen lock icon in panel looks to my mind rather ugly.
And it's fixed. I can't neither select one from a gallery, nor set my custom image as screen lock icon (as it's possible in AfterStep).

I would like to see the option of setting custom icon not only in the application launcher.

The icon is not fixed but read from your current icon theme, the name is xfce-system-lock.
