Ubuntu 9.04 with Xfce 4.6.1 from http://jeromeg.blog.free.fr/ xfce-power-manager 0.8.0 vaio FS115M with no more fn key support Hi, My laptop's got 8 levels to adjust brightness however the brightness plugin got more than 5O! positions of adjustment. And finally, the physical range to adjust brightness is very small despite the size of the plugin. Is there a way to adjust the brightness plug-in to each laptop ?

(In reply to comment #2) > Created an attachment (id=2413) [details] > lshal > > here it is Thanks, You should have 86 position instead of 50, because HAL says that the numlevel of your screen supports up to 86 positions which is weired(search for laptop_panel in you lshal and you'll see it), happily is not related to the power manager it is again probably an HAL issue. In order to debug this before reporting a bug to HAL, please check this path /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/sony for a file called max_brightness or something and see content of this file and let me know please.
cat /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/sony/max_brightness give me 7
(In reply to comment #4) > cat /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/sony/max_brightness give me 7 So isn't a kernel drive problem, i don't know why HAL has 86, i found and lshal output for your laptop in the internet with the correct num_level! I understand your situation without brightness key (i had once a Vaio) and with incorrect brightness information from HAL. Best is to report a bug for Ubuntu at launchpad, i think it is a setup problem, keep me informed if you need any help.
