xfwm allows killing anything with alt+f4

alt+f4 allows killing everything, even if it is set to be ignored by the wm, including panels, docks, etc.
just needs keyboard focus.

that way killing the xfce session is possible by accident, by pressing alt+f4 multiple times. when the last window is closed, the keyboard focus will go to the panel and alt+f4 closes the panel.
btw closing the panel shouldnt kill xfce either.

Panels and docks are not ignored by the window manager, you are being confused with override redirect windows.

If no window is available, it will terminate the session, this is a feature that was implemented on purpose, no bug here.

But of course you have a confirmation window (unless you've disabled it on purpose, in which case you cannot really complain, can you?).

So I see no bug here (at least no bug in xfwm4), but I could be missing something, so pelase elaborate on where you see a bug.

you're right, i am confused, sorry.
there is no confirmation dialog and i didnt switch anything of. reproduceable with a fresh xfce (deleted .config/xfce*)

in fact after using it some time i see the session randomly getting killed on keyboard input in any app after pressing a wm shortcut like F1,F2,F3 (custom)
is there any way i can provide more debug info?

for example i press F1 to go one workspace left then opera has focus and i type something in the url bar, after some keys it sometimes crashes. i suspect this beeing a timing related issue. it only happens when i'm typing very fast. i might also accidently press random buttons inbetween, but definatly not ctrl+alt+backspace. no clue how to debug that.

Can be different things.

- Could be the X server crashing, check the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file
- Could be the application in charge of the session that either ends or crash.
+ If you have xfce4-session that will be it but since you say you do not get any dialog upon logout I suspect that you are not using xfce4-session (probably an installation issue on your side)
+ If xfce4-session is not available, it's the xfce4-panel that would be used for controlling the session, ie the session is active until the panel quits. That is not the recommended setup.
+ Something else, but you'll have to find out
