It will be great to have an ability to set suspend/standby mode to laptop monitor 
on lid close event (like in a kde4 power manager), and awake on lid open, of cause :)

But this is done through the hardware right, i mean laptops usually switch off the monitor when the lid is closed, and switch it back on when lid is open, please clarify a bit here.
