My soundcard is always muted on each channel when starting xfce.
This does not happen in other DesktopEnvironments as kde or gnome.

This is xfce4-mixer 4.6.0 and it happens both on a onboard chipset
VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
and on a Creative LivePlayer 1024.

quite the same for me, but not on each channel, only on master.
are configuration values saved somewhere ?

I also have a muted master playback channel at every login. It's also reported on Ubuntu Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-mixer/+bug/378470

Ah no, I've just discovered: It does not happen when I log out and log back in, but only when the system is (re-) booted.
Comment 4 Patrice Aubry 2009-05-19 22:49:17 CEST
For info, it also happens on Xubuntu 9.04 PS3.
Comment 5 Jérémy Lal 2009-05-20 11:10:39 CEST
on my side the problem disappeared.
Apparently, some aumix update fixed it, although i'm not sure about that.

I think this only occurs when pulseaudio is installed.

This is not a problem with xfce4-mixer. It's because your system fails to save the sound settings: make sure you have alsa-utils installed. You can save things manually by using alsactl store.

On some distributions like Archlinux, you also need to make sure the alsa daemon is started. But again this is a distro specific question, xfce4-mixer is not responsible for saving those settings, it just reads the system settings through gstreamer.
