If you choose not to give focus automatically to newly created windows in window manager settings and then you open a window, the new window would be easier to note, if its task list item would be emphasized somehow, possibly using some animation like blinking, like an item that marks an application is ready in another workspace. This should happen when the new window is ready for user input. Usually the easiest way to get access immediately to the new window is by pressing Alt-Tab once, but visual effect would be a kind of reminder about the new window and show that the window is ready. If task list grouping is in use, the group item should be emphasized similarly, and if the group is expanded, the new window's item should be emphasized, so that the right window could be easily chosen. The effect should be terminated, when the new window gets focus. The effect might be unwanted for some hang around applications, such as terminal and calculator, when they are loaded as part of Xfce session startup.
I suppose this could be handled by startup notifications as for launching applications from panel at least.
We could blink the button on the needs-attention window state. Need to figure out if that is what we really want here.
